Sophia completed her under graduate studies in Chemistry (2007) at Bar-Ilan University Focusing on pharmaceutical chemistry. She then  graduated her MSc cum laude (2009) and PhD in Solar energy (photovoltaic cells) focusing on photo- electrochemical cells, in the group of Prof. Arie Zaban at Institute of Nanotechnology and Advance Materials, Bar-Ilan University.

During her MSc and PhD studies she has been working on the development of new materials and structures for Dye Sensitized Solar cells (DSSCs) and Quantun Dot Sensitized Solar Cell (QDSSC). In her research she incorporated novel physical phenomenon in these cells like Forster resonance energy transfer (FRET) and Photo-Induced-Dipole effect. During the course of her research she has studied the operation mechanisms of charge transfer processes in the solar cells, while developing high efficient nano structured solar cells.

Sophia has published a number of papers as the first and leading author, which were accepted for publication by various high rated peer reviewed journals these journals include the Journal of Physical Chemistry Letters, Acs Nano and Microelectronic Engineering. She has also written a patent which was published in USA Prov Application.
