Avraham Ben-Aroya is a computer scientist. His general interest is in theoretical computer science and his research focuses on quantum computation quantum information and pseudorandomness.

Avraham completed his PhD in Tel-Aviv University under the supervision of Prof. Oded Regev and Prof. Amnon Ta-Shma. His thesis, “Quantum Computation and Quantum Information”, explored the power of computing devices based on the laws of quantum physics. Such computers, once built, will be able to break almost all known cryptographic systems currently in use. The creation of such a computational device is a highly complicated engineering task, one a variety of labs and governments worldwide are currently attempting.

Avraham’s research was focused on some of the core questions surrounding quantum computation. Questions such as the limitations and abilities of quantum computation were at the heart of his research into a new quantum primitive known as a quantum expander.

Avraham started his academic career at the age of 14 and completed a degree in computer science while attending high school; he then continued with his studies in the same field and graduated summa cum laude from Tel-Aviv University. After receiving his PhD in 2012, Avraham became a postdoctoral fellow at the Weizmann Institute, hosted by Prof. Ran Raz.
