Rigidity of Riemannian Embeddings of Discrete Metric Spaces

Matan, born in 1990, grew up in Holon. His mathematical curiosity was awakened by his mother, a math teacher, and after completing high school early, he started his undergraduate studies at Tel Aviv University in the framework of the accelerated program in mathematics headed by Prof. Beno Arbel. Shortly after the conclusion of his first academic year, he joined an elite technological unit of the IDF’s Intelligence Corps, where he served for four and a half years. Matan received his BSc in Mathematics and Computer Science from Tel Aviv University and immediately continued to MSc and PhD studies at the Weizmann Institute of Science, under the supervision of Prof. Bo’az Klartag. His research is in the field of Riemannian geometry, a branch of mathematics that generalizes notions from Euclidean geometry, such as length, angle, surface area and volume. His particular interest lies in deducing geometric conclusions from partial metrical data, such as distances between pairs of points in a discrete subset.

Alongside his research, Matan enjoys lecturing and teaching courses in mathematics. In the coming years, he hopes to combine his love for mathematical research with his passion for teaching.
