Ohad Segal is currently pursuing a PhD under the supervision of Distinguished Professor Mordechai Segev, a world-renowned expert in nonlinear optics and photonics. Ohad’s research focuses on photonic time crystals, a cutting-edge field with applications such as tunable coherent light sources and quantum computation. His research combines his passion for waves (which originated from surfing) and scientific curiosity to explore novel optical-wave phenomena in experiments and theory. He has published several papers and received awards and scholarships for academic achievements and is committed to advancing knowledge and skills in this field.
Ohad grew up in a small village near the Mediterranean in Israel, where he learned to appreciate the beauty and diversity of nature and developed a love for action sports such as surfing, windsurfing, rock climbing, skiing, and scuba diving. These activities taught him to challenge himself, overcome fear, enjoy the thrill of discovery, and build perseverance and endurance. They also inspired him to explore the physical and biological phenomena that govern our world. As a high school student, Ohad participated in the FIRST Robotics Competition, in mathematics competitions, and in the Israeli Virtual Olympics competition. Following high school, he served as a combat scuba diver in the Israeli Navy.
