The Israel Academy of Sciences and Humanities deeply mourns the passing of Mr. Marcel Adams

The Israel Academy of Sciences and Humanities deeply mourns the passing of Mr. Marcel Adams of Montreal, Canada, founder of the Adams Fellowships Program and a dear friend and benefactor of Israel’s most promising young researchers.  We extend our heartfelt condolences to his children, Sylvan, Linda, Julian and Leora.

Following are the words of Sylvan Adams, his son, who has taken over the overseeing of the Adams Fellowships Program for the family:

”My father, Marcel Adams, born Abramovici, passed away today, peacefully at home, just nine days after we celebrated his 100th birthday. He was a great man, a Holocaust survivor, who never complained, never looked back, only forward, as he worked hard to build a better life for himself and his family.

His nickname in his native Romania was “Solidu,” the solid one, and that’s exactly what he was.

He waited for me to come from Israel to celebrate his special birthday and chose to check out and say goodbye. His last words to me were, ‘I love you.’

And he kissed me.

I am heartbroken.
He was a great man, and my role model and mentor.”
