Jonathan Jung grew up in Rehovot and now lives in Jerusalem. Raised in a family of scientists, he developed an early passion for nature and later focused on understanding life at the molecular level. He studied Biology in high school and went on to pursue a B.Sc. in Life Sciences at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem.

Following the first year of his B.Sc., a summer scholarship gave Jung the opportunity to join Prof. Nissim Benvenisty’s lab at the Azrieli Center for Stem Cells and Genetic Research. There, he worked on identifying cancer-related mutations in RNA-seq data from human pluripotent stem cells. He completed his BSc with highest honors and co-published his work in Nature Biotechnology.

During his M.Sc., which he also completed with highest honors, Jung studied cancer-related mutations in adult stem cells, publishing his findings in Stem Cell Reports. He then continued in the direct Ph.D. program in the same lab. Jung has presented his research at international conferences and has received multiple excellence and travel awards. His work is dedicated to advancing safe stem cell use in research and therapy by improving our understanding of genomic stability and mutations in stem cells.
