Amit Elad was born in 1994 in Kibbutz Matzuva in the Western Galilee. From a young age, Amit's fascination with riddles took him from high school chemistry experiments to deciphering intelligence in the army, where he derived important insights from subtle nuances in Persian. That same drive now fuels his passion for medicine – the challenge of diagnosis and the chance to turn knowledge into better care.
Amit is now an MD.–PhD candidate at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, conducting his doctoral research in developmental biology in Prof. Danny Ben-Zvi’s lab. His research focuses on the development of neuroendocrine cells (NECs) in the stomach, aiming to uncover general principles relevant to NECs throughout the body. Using computational tools, in vivo models, and organoid systems, he is developing new methods to study the differentiation, maintenance, and function of these cells.
His academic path reflects a deep belief in integrating biological research into clinical care. As a future physician-scientist, he is particularly interested in uncovering the biological and developmental principles underlying different congenital disorders, aiming, ultimately, to advance personalized and holistic treatments. He is also committed to strengthening Israel’s scientific and medical resilience, while promoting collaboration and sharing Israel’s contributions with the world.
Amit lives in Kibbutz Ma'ale HaHamisha with his life partner, Shlomi, and their Husky, Bowie.
