Adi Sheinfeld is an electrical engineer and postdoctoral fellow in the Department of Biomedical Engineering at the Pratt School of Engineering, Duke University, Durham, North Carolina.
In her postdoctoral research at Duke University Adi continues to combine optics and ultrasound, however now at a microscopic scale for imaging cells. Her research includes photoacoustic and phase imaging of cancer cells specifically tagged with gold nanoparticles.
Adi received her PhD in electrical engineering from Tel Aviv University in 2014. Her thesis, “Photoacoustic Flowmetry,” written under the supervision of Prof. Avishay Eyal, focused on developing non-invasive techniques for blood flow measurement based on the photoacoustic effect. Photoacoustic imaging is based on launching light and detecting the ultrasonic waves that are generated due to its absorption in the medium. Adi has developed a novel photoacoustic flowmetry system based on optical excitation with fiber-coupled laser diodes and flow estimation either from the Doppler frequency shift or from the rate of heat clearance.
Adi’s work has been published in journals such as Optics Express, Journal of Biomedical Optics and Biomedical Optics Express.
